Research

I am a PhD student researching Internet architecture, primarily interested on how the technical infrastructure holding the Internet together is influenced by geography and politics. There are a number of different areas this covers, from the basics of how a sea between two countries means they talk to each other through a small number of cables, to the more politically-motivated impact of government-mandated controls (like censorship).

I’m based in the Cyber Security and Privacy research group in the Department of Computer Science at the University of York, co-supervised by Dr Vasileios Vasilakis and Dr Poonam Yadav.

I am also a member of the SYSTRON Lab, lead by Dr Yadav, and exploring distributed systems, interoperability and network technologies. You can read more about the lab, its research and publications on its dedicated site.

Education

Between 2018 and 2022, I completed a Masters of Engineering in Computer Science at the University of York. My undergraduate research project looked at the application of neural networks in cyber security - entitled: “Collective anomaly detection in network traffic using a recurrent neural network”, supervised by Prof Simon O’Keefe.
